Canon: The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
Gender: Dude
Age: Appears and acts 12 - is actually only a year old or so
History: Dad, I'm an egg! Junior's Debut: Son of Nergal

Personality: Nergal Junior is not what he appears to be. The form that he normally takes is not his true self. Junior actually starts out as a sentient egg with glasses, living in the center of the earth. Before he even hatches his parents send him out into the world, to attend a winter camp with other children. Junior experiences a fair amount of trepidation, believing he will not fit in, but his parents insist. After breaking out of his egg, his true form is considered so freakish that he is ridiculed by the first kid he comes across; a dark haired boy in a coat, red knit cap, scarf, and mittens. This is Junior's first shape-shift and the "default" he adopts. But regardless of what form he takes Junior always has green eyes, glasses, and pointy green teeth.

Junior starts out very reluctant to meet new people and experience new things and basically stays this way through the entire series, despite his deep desire to make friends. His first encounter with humans leads Junior to become jealous of those who are revered as popular, as he is only made fun of and rejected. This results in Junior subsequently kidnapping a number of children and a camp counselor and taking their places, both in seeking revenge and wanting to be liked and accepted. Of course the ordeal ends badly for him when his beloved teddy bear Mr. Bonkers is threatened and Junior is reduced to tears over being unable to make friends. He eventually does make friends with his cousin Billy and later befriends his schoolmates Mandy and Irwin, but Junior is unsuccessful in becoming popular. In later episodes it is revealed that even after enrolling in school he still spends most of his time alone and goes through an "EMO phase" where he experiences depression, sadness, and loneliness. After his first encounter with the kids at winter camp Junior was still fearful about starting school and tried to avoid it. Of course then as soon as he entered the classroom he was picked on. When his worst fears are only reinforced one can't really blame him for continuing to be pretty pessimistic. He does not usually get to do things with his classmates and is excited and surprised when he is asked to be included in group activities. At times, when he is wrapped up in his own misery, he also retains the mentality that nobody would want to be around him and he can't actually accept that anyone would legitimately want to associate with him.

Consider that Junior literally lives in the center of the earth with his demonic father and normal human mother and that he jumps into being twelve years old rather than experiencing growing up like the average child, it is quite apparent as to why he has issues with socialization, even with naturally being shy and anxious. Sometimes Junior acts more childish than would be expected of a fifth or sixth grader-- as evidenced by his attachment to his teddy bear and being so attached to his parents like a younger child would be. His mother and father are apparently his only social contacts when he's not at school. So he'd understandably feel rather isolated. So if he is able to have continuous, reliable contact with other people and make meaningful friendships he'd realistically not revert back to feeling so alienated and alone. Not that he'd expect everyone to jump on him for full-on friendship, but he could just enjoy actually having some friends. He'd still be tentative in general and quiet and "allergic to fun" as he once put it. But making friends would be good for him as helping people and having others rely on him emboldens him. Learning about love pushed him to do a big favor for his friend Irwin and he was quite passionate about doing so. He also finds the concept of falling in love to be "amazing" and is quite taken with the notion of romance.

While Junior is not exactly a bad kid, he does obviously do some bad and morally reprehensible things. He has no issues with kidnapping people, for instance, and putting them in a state of suspended animation or gluing them to a bathroom ceiling to keep them out of the way. He can be quite intimidating, when he wants to be, and delights in punishing those who have wronged him. For example he force-feeds a bully and engulfed him in tentacles to give him an atomic wedgie before taking him to his home in the underground to keep him, literally, as a pet for a definite amount of time. But he does not seem to want to cause permanent injury or seriously harm a person. Rather, he wants to teach them a lesson. Though, Junior has completely lost his cool and basically went on a crazed rampage. But even in that instance he didn't harm anyone. Actions that are rather horrible are done out of jealousy, anger, or hurt or a desire to seek justice. But he can be quite creepy when he wants to be and has no issues with scaring people when it suits him or he feels they deserve it.

Being so young and sheltered, Junior can be misguided simply due to inexperience, even if his heart is in the right place. After Junior accidentally betrayed a new friend, he was mad at himself. The incident involved "girl trouble" and his father had stepped in to tell him he shouldn't feel bad for inadvertently "stealing" a date and that he shouldn't even care if he liked this girl or not and simply focus on keeping her tied down so she wouldn't get away. Junior took this very bad advice at face value and became pretty crazy possessive as a result. He believed he shouldn't let the only girl who could possibly like him ever get away. The incident devolved into a punch fight and Junior learned in the end how wrong he was to betray his friend. And that his dad gave him lousy advice. Thus, if he was ever involved with anyone again, he would know better than to be a possessive.

Junior is really pretty sharp, despite his lack of knowledge in certain areas. He will over-think things if he dwells on them too long, trying to decide the best possible course of action to take. For the most part Junior is quite observant, direct, level headed, and smarter than most of the other kids he encounters. When he first arrived at winter camp he remarked, straight away, that their cabin was quite cold, so mustn't there be a better place for them to stay. When he's picked on he directly asked the teacher how she could allow it. And given the opportunity to make a wish, he had to think over every single possibility, because he knew that even if he wished for something he truly wanted, it could actually wind up kicking him in the teeth. So in the end he did over-think his wish and actually wished to know what he should wish for... He does seem to have lapses in judgement, also, including the use of his own powers. Like doing things the hard way instead of using his abilities to do something easily.

There are moments where Junior has bouts of cockiness, like showing off his shape-shifting abilities. And he can be mischievous and has no issues with dishing out payback, quite obviously. He helped his dad sabotage a rival pizza place when his family got into the pizza business, for example. But Junior doesn't seek out trouble or people to abuse. He readily helps those who ask it of him, as he aids his father, cousin Billy, and friend Irwin. He may be half demon, but he has typical kid feelings. And he can actually put up with quite a lot of abuse before he reaches the tipping point and takes retribution into his own hands.

Powers/Abilities: As a half-demon from the center of the earth, Junior possesses some unique characteristics. He can take the form of anyone he's seen before, adults and kids and monsters alike. He can also change into generic animals or creepy half-monster forms. He has some difficultly with becoming inanimate objects, apparently, and it could be hard for him to shape shift from that state. So he doesn't attempt those transformations. But he can materialize personal effects when he form-shifts without issue.

This is possibly Junior's real self. He uses this form on more than one occasion in the final season to scare the bile out of people. At the very least his true form is black and squirming with tentacles and is equally creepy. It is generally perceived, by most humans, to be so horrible that one cannot bare to look at him.

He is capable of putting people in a state of suspended animation, as if they are frozen. When he does this he says they are "just sleeping." He surrounds someone with a blueish aura and can apparently keep them this way for as long as he sees fit.

Junior sprouts long black tentacles at will, using them as he would arms. The tentacles can be octopus like or have little claws or mouths-- and he can eat with the them. They are also capable of electrifying people, as in the series they are also referred to as "electric snakes."

He can smush himself into a liquid-like state, to slide beneath doors and the like. He is also capable of teleporting, in a way, zapping himself from one location to another. He can also morph through solid objects such as walls.

And he can create creatures from himself, little Nergalings, as in the instance he decided to manifest small winged bat boys to aid him in delivering pizzas.

Keepsakes/Mementos: His teddy bear, Mr. Bonkers, of course. A picture of his family. His school book bag that contains his journal. His glasses, since they are the only thing he wears that aren't actually generated by his shape-shifting abilities. He is used to living in a castle of sorts within the earth's core. The rooms within look cave-like for the most part.

Mindset: Having been acquainted with the Grim Reaper personally, Junior will be confused about where he has ended up. Because he had never heard of trapping souls in a computer system. Being half demon and all he wasn't sure it was possible for him to go where mortal souls went. He will recall what happened to him, though. But he will hope maybe he can figure out why he is where he is. Panic won't be his initial response, but he will experience anxiety and be fearful of being in a strange place with people he doesn't know. He will miss his family and be afraid he won't ever see them again. He won't like existing in the afterlife without them and he will continue to be sad about this, even if he is able to make new friends.

G̶̶l̨͡i̵͢t̷c͝͠h̕é͠s̷̷͡: Junior, more than anything, seems to fear rejection and being alone. Unless he's purposefully trying to scare someone he doesn't want others to be afraid of him. And he suffers from social anxiety, depression, and mental anguish resulting from spending too much time by himself and focusing on his own misery. Mr. Bonkers is a "weakness" in that he gets deeply upset if the teddy bear is threatened. He will have an even deeper attachment to the bear since it's all he really has left of his life with his family. Being stuck in a form is also a possibility-- where he loses control of the transformation and is unable to change into anything else. And when he is pushed to it, as in the case of him becoming obsessively possessive, he can lash out and become crazed, paranoid, destructive, and kind of violent.
